No, U Da Ho

I got an AARP card in the mail. I guess I'm 55 and didn't get the memo.

Brett and I went to the park today. Mother of the year. My fearless child was all of a sudden afraid to go down the big slides. So I had to help push him down. With my foot. It's good for him though.

Today Brett watched 30 minutes of a movie. I. am. ecstatic. I got to do my hair and make-up without him playing in the toilet or throwing toys in my hamper or using my toothbrush to clean the floor. It was awesome. I feel like I need to get him a pony or something. But I won't. Because I hate animals.

Today is my mom's birthday. 5 days ago was my dad's. Because they are from the great state of Idaho (and remember, I did my state report on Idaho in 5th grade?!? Just in case you forgot), I got them a card with a potato dressed in drag. On the front it says I DA HO. On the inside it says, NO, U DA HO. I think they'll totally dig it.

It was either that or this picture. And on the back I was going to write,

"When you were young, getting buried was fun. Now that you're older, it hits a little too close to home!"

But I'm lazy and I bought the I da ho card.

In other news, my friend Jessie is on day number two being in the hospital, waiting for her little boy to grace the world with his presence. I'm so excited for her. And last time I talked to her, she was excited because the happy doctor just came in and put liquid crack in her spine. She's loving life. Doctors are considering doing a c-section this evening if he doesn't want to come out. I told her that c-sections are nothing to worry about. It's super fast. And postpartum, they shoot you up with the really good stuff anytime you want it. I say it's a win-win. And he'll share a birthday with my mom so I'll never forget the date. So, win-win-win I guess.

And I read the Pottery Barn catalog like it's my job.

The End.

I Love Sleeping In My Own Bed

We're back! We fit way too many things into 5 days.

After driving straight back to NM from Idaho, we're exhausted. And sick with allergies. Damn that Idaho wind!

We stopped off at McDonalds about an hour and a half from home, so Brett could run around and go on the slide. He wouldn't eat his cheeseburger, so I just let him have fries and drink my diet coke.

World's best parents. That's us.

Pictures and Zola stories to follow. I know you can't wait.

Thank you for calling OnStar...

"If you have a child or a pet locked inside the vehicle, press 1."

I had yet another "Mom of the Year" moment today.

I let my kid play in the car so I could clean up the garage and organize my Christmas decorations. He likes to pretend to drive, so I let him. I don't have to really "watch" him, and he doesn't have to play on the garage floor. Sounds great. I forgot to take the keys out, but then again, why would I? We were in the garage. I didn't need the keys, right? Wrong.

I also forgot that he loves to push the buttons, you know, like the window and door lock buttons. Well, as I'm doing my thing, I hear this little "click", and then realized that he locked himself in the car. Awesome. I was tapping on the window and pointing down hoping that he would push the buttons again and miraculously unlock the doors. He thought it was a little game we were playing, and tapped on the window too, and laughed at me.

Thank goodness for my friends at OnStar who saved the day. Hopefully you'll hear my call on one of their commercials."Um, yeah. My kid locked himself in the car... and he's laughing at me. And I'm a really awesome mom."
