So, we've gone our whole marriage without having to speak in church. Our lucky streak has come to an end. We were called last Thursday night to speak in church THAT Sunday! So, there wasn't much time prepare. I don't know if that was a good thing, because then we had less time to feel nervous. So I was assigned to speak on the Restoration and Family, and Nathan was assigned to speak about Sustaining our Leaders. Oh, and I had to wonderful job of introducing our family. I just don't like talking for five minutes about ourselves. I tried to get Nathan to do it, but he said that because I'm first, I have to do it.
I tend to make jokes when I'm nervous (imagine that!). So, I hope that I didn't make a ridiculous first impression on our new ward that we will be in probably until our kid (kids) are in high school. We were assigned to speak for 30 minutes between the two of us. I spoke for 25 minutes (imagine that), and left a whopping 5 minutes for Nate. (He told me to try and take up a lot of time because he didn't really prepare very long for his talk! I worked on mine for 9 hours!) I think that next time we speak, I'm just going to get up there, bear my testimony and sit down.

oh man that is awesome! come up to slc if you want some cheesiness!
that whole intro thing before the talk drives me crazy! Im all about the intro, but when they start crying because the husband purposed on the same day as their pioneers made it to zion, loopy!
so I think we are going to do one of two things when we get to ftown, either goto the driving range or goto durango on Saturday to either climb or walk around. Let us know what your up to.
We've made it about 18 months without having to speak, but we've had a calling for about 16.5-17 of those months (sunbeam teachers). I hope since there are ALWAYS new move in's & out's, that we won't get called to speak. Now i've probably cursed us. In CA, we spoke a TON!
Cheers to speaking in Church. In MoVal I had to speak twice in a 5 month period..isn't that a little much? Guess it's just cuz I'm so darn spiritual. :) Perhaps I'm a little weird but I always like the intro thing, hearing and giving. Mostly becuase I admire those who are newly married living such a glamorous life I can't experience, or I just like talking about myself and my marvelous achievements. :) Who wouldn't like the reaction to "Hi I'm 24 and I teach High School!" sweet! At least now you can write it off for 10 years or so.
I bet your intro. jokes were great- I can hear you laughing at the podium. You are too funny Shar. How are you liking your new home, town, movie theatre?!
You are too lucky! We are always asked to speak as soon as we move into a new ward - once they asked me twice in four weeks! Then this last time I got out of it by going into the E.R. the Saturday night before. I wouldn't consider myself a lucky person. haha I bet you did great though. I still remember how well you did in Rdls. :-)
Yes, yes I am here. I have just gone into a slight state of depression lately ;)
How did you make it this long? We got called to speak driving home from our honeymoon! No joke!
