Okay, September 10th...
I went into my Dr's appointment in the morning(I was 29 weeks and 1 day) for a regular check-up and also for my glucose test. Always fun.
I had a list of things to do after my appointment, which included but was not limited to unloading our suitcases and doing laundry. LOTS of laundry. And cleaning my house. We did, after all, just get back from a trip. It looked liked our suitcases threw up all over.
Anyway, I got there a little early to drink the glucose so I wouldn't have to be there all day. The end of my appointment, I saw my doctor. He couldn't get a good reading of the baby's heart with just the heart listening thing, so he did an ultrasound.
My doctor is so calm, that he is hard to read. He looked at the monitor for a while, then told me that after I got my blood drawn for my glucose, to go to the hospital and get hooked up to one of their fetal monitors, which can monitor the baby's heartbeat a little closer. He was concerned because the baby's heart rate was over 200.
I wasn't really worried at this point because my doctor is so calm. I get my blood drawn and head to the hospital, which is pretty much across the street. Go to labor and delivery to get hooked up to their fetal monitor. I am stripped down to nothing with a gown on and the monitor strapped to my belly. I honestly thought they would monitor the baby for an hour, and then I'd be going home.
Wrong.
As the nurse is listening to the heartbeat, all of a sudden she looks at me a little panicked says "What is your baby doing?" and runs out of the room. Now I'm starting to panic. What is my baby doing? Moving? I have no idea. I felt fine.
She had run out to page my doctor, who was there super quick. He came in and was listening to the baby when he said the worst words to hear when you are 29 weeks and 1 day pregnant.
"I'm going to have to do your c-section right now." (The baby's heart rate was around 60)
(P.S. It's taken me two weeks to be able to write this because I couldn't even think about that day and that phrase without bursting into tears)
I burst into tears. I just yelled over and over "No, no, no, it's too early!" I could barely give the nurse Nate's phone number so she could call him.
Within 10 minutes, Burke was born.
Nate found out after he got to the hospital.
Anyway, two weeks ago our lives were turned upside down in a flash. The first week was rough. I would cry all day, in public, in private... it didn't matter. But now we have this cute little guy and couldn't be happier. It's going to be a long road, and he'll probably be in the hospital for 2 more months, but we love him so much.

I'm a lucky girl with a beautiful family.

How is Mommy doing?! I seriously just keep thinking about you and how you must be worn out and exhausted. Here you just had a c section, but it seems like you dont have anytime to stop and think about how you are feeling! I hope you are recovering well and I love the pictures of your little boys. Brett is a total stud, and that lil Burke looks like a cutie! I dont want to call and bug you, so give me a call if you ever have down time.
Love ya lots...
So glad to hear everything is going better. You are a trooper and I have to agree with you...you do have a beautiful family!
I am a big teary mess right now. My goodness Shar, what a ride! You are one amazing mom. The Lord is so good and so mindful of us tired moms and sweet babies. You're seriously in our thoughts and prayers.
I can't imagine how scared you much have been. So, Nate wasn't even there when they did the c-section huh? So crazy! I'm happy things are going well now. He is such a cutie! Love the pictures!
I had my first baby much the same way. Only I was 35 weeks. And it was still scary as Hell!
You're doing a great job, with both Brett and Burke. Know that we are all praying for you and thinking of you! Hang in there!
We love you guys lots! And lets be honest, we had a good time hangin at the hospital...minus all the circumstances!
Grant is still cracking up that you ordered the meatloaf. It must of been the drugs talking when you made that dinner order!

Oh wow. Thanks for sharing. I am sure it was really hard to write that all. Little Burke is so sweet and adorable. Can't wait to hear more updates...it's amazing he is doing so well. Such a blessing.
I am so sorry Shar, I am totally crying! How hard that must have been! Especially all alone without Nate with you! I can remember wanting Cadence to come out so bad, but when she came out so little (6 lbs) and couldn't gain weight for the life of her all I wanted was for her to go back inside me! After having kids I am SOOOO emotional, I cant even imagine whats going on inside you! But your a super strong lady and I know you can handle life! Your baby is beautiful and I am sure all will be good in no time at all!
Sharon, Burke is so beautiful and such a fighter. I am so happy he is doing well. You have been in our thoughts and prayers. You must be exhausted. You are one amazing woman. Those pictures of Brett and Burke are adorable. Keep holding on.

This gave me chills and brought me to tears. I am so sorry Sharon.. all that you been through. That would be terrifying to hear those words, that he needed to be born right then. You are such a trooper. Burke is incredibly cute as well as Bretty boy. xoxo
