I've purchased all of your suggestions to add to my workout mix (unless they were even remotely ghetto, then I already owned them BIOTCHES!)
Anyway, here is what's going down. Let me share some of my running whatnots. Because like I said, I'm a total
Since I haven't worked out since, I don't know, 2004, I am starting out way slow. (That's not true, I did do yoga. here and here)
I have been doing the couch to 5k found here. You start out super slow, which is good, because I would get super burned out just going and trying to run a
When I started running, I had a huge (chuckle) problem with my chest hitting me in the thighs and then in the face. My sister happens to be a bra fitter at Nordstrom, and fixed me up right. I got this Donna Karan underwire sports bra.

It's awesome. Holds everything in place. Buy it here. I would recommend going to Nordy's and getting fitted. My sister says nearly everyone wears the wrong size bra. I was.Shoes. I just went out and found the best looking running shoes I could and just bought them without trying them on. Der. Kidding.
I got some Asics about a year ago. Had every intention of using them, and never did. So, they are pretty much brand new. They don't make them anymore, but here is a close equivalent.
I like Asics because they are wide. My feet are so short and wide, that they are almost square. Really. Which is weird because I'm 5'9''. I should have ginormous feet, but I'm barely an 8. And only that because my feet grew ONE WHOLE SIZE when I was pregnant with Brett. Did any one else's feet grow with pregnancy? Or am I just a freak of nature?
So, pretty much from you runner types, you hit the runners high at about 2-ish miles? That is awesome. I just have to run longer I guess.
But let's talk about shorts for a minute. BECAUSE MY THIGHS TOUCH AND THEY PROBABLY ALWAYS WILL, shorts tend to ride on up to you know where. Do you have any good ones that don't ride? Mona mentioned tights. Where would one get said tights? Are they like spandex? I don't really know if I'm quite ready to commit to spandex at this point in my running career.
Maybe in a few more months, when my body

That's the same program I started...and will be starting again! I need to go get fitted...so badly...I wear two sports bras and that doesn't even work!
1. one thing that we are not going to do when you come to visit is... RUN.
2. Nordstroms shopping yes. running no.
3. WHAT? You're 5 freakin' NINE??
I always tend to gravitate to taller people. So no wonder we're bff's. by the way. I'm no 5'9. just a chubby 5'4.
4. I am very proud of you but all this running talk is making me tired, so I am off to drink my first diet coke of the morning.
As soon and I'm done nursing, I'll be visiting your sister. I'm in need of a good bra. I'm sure I've been wearing the wrong size.
No, you are not a freak, my feet grew too. It happens.
I have no advice on running gear. I'm doing the couch workout too. The one where I sit on the couch and think about working out. It's a great one.
Shar...Jill from Orem (Yancey's sis in law). I have that same bra from my "Nordstrom bra fitting friend". It is the best sports bra I've ever owned (and currently on sale). You're right, it holds the girls in place and keeps the jiggle to a minimum! Also, have you ever heard of Crossfit? I started this workout about 5 months ago. My workout lasts about an average of 12 minutes. Anyway, I've dropped 30 pounds and LOTS of inches. It is the hardest workout ever, but it has changed my life (and my thighs and my booty and the girls). I don't know if they have an actual Crossfit affiliate gym down there, but there might be a gym that has trainers certified in Crossfit. Check it out! One more thing...I met your mom when we were down visiting and we all went up to the cabin (during your stay with Burke at the hospital). What a sweet mom you have! Hope all is well with you!
Like I said, it's all about the cotton/spandex shorts to run in. if you feel like your ass is jiggling too much, it's more motivation for you to keep running so those shorts look great on you. It definitely motivates me. If you get the silky-ish spandex, they will ride up, so stick with the cotton ones.
I am a fellow thigh rubber friend! The thought of running makes me sick! So you go girl!
From one wannabe runner to another...
* I think "couch to 5k" is great, you've got to start somewhere.
* best running socks ever. http://www.balegasports.com/
* Rhianna saves my life while running.
* new shoes or outfit for that matter, REALLY motivate me.
* you need a running buddy. they hold you accountable to someone.
* sign up for a race. (start with a 5K) doing so sure gets your butt in gear!
* two words: NO SPANDEX (we'll talk when you're competing in triathlons.)
hmmm, I just realized how ridiculous this post is, but I hope it helps!
Yes, the running tight or for a bit looser fit: the running pant. I just did a google search "running tight" and a bunch of options popped up. I opt for either the capri or pant length in a tight especially during this time of the year. In the summer, these lengths get a bit too warm. And I'm not a fan of lycra shorts. So go figure. Tights also come in various weights. Some are fleece lined. Some are more breathable, etc.
Like with anything, everyone has their preference. Some people hate running in tights, but I find that they eliminate chafing, stay in place, and actually make it feel like I am not jiggling as much.
So I think it's time I stopped lurking :) I'm good friends with Erica and your comments on her blog always make me smile. Turns out your blog totally makes me smile, too :)
I am trying to get back into running after baby number 3 (who was born 8 whole months ago, I think I need to stop claiming I just had a baby!). My bum is honestly my caboose jiggling along after me, it's horrible. But my super tight capri running pants make my caboose jiggle way less when I'm running and it helps SO much. I'd recommend them. My thighs totally rub together when I run too and it doesn't matter so much with the tights.
Also, my feet grew about half a size with each pregnancy. Awesome. You are not alone :)
So does me leaving a comment make it any less weird that I read your blog? I hope so :)
When I started wearing shorts I had the same problem with the whole "ride-up-into-any-and-all-cracks" thing. My sister in law recommended actually buying men's underwear...works like a charm. They cover your buns completely so that your shorts have nowhere to ride to :)
And AMEN to an underwire sports bra. I had no idea I was missing out until I bought a good one, then one day it was in the laundry and I wore my ghetto cheap one...total pain. I can't believe I went for so long with my gross boobs bouncing all over the place!!
Never Again!
