And I love it because it's like a little cage that he can't escape from at night and bug us. Win-win.
Just because he's not in a big boy bed yet doesn't stop me from buying big boy bedding. This chocolate dot pattern by DwellStudio is going to look fab in his room. Now we just need a bed. Maybe. Or maybe the bedding will sit in his closet forever.
So tell me, how long do you keep a kid in a crib? 2? 3?Because if he's going to continue to sleep this well, I'm going to keep him in it til kindergarten.

The only reason I moved Cecily into a bed was because she was such a wild sleeper she would wake herself up in her little crib. She slept much better in a big bed. I'm all about keeping him in a crib if he's happy there (for the exact reason you mentioned)!
I had mine out at 18 months but that is because I am insane and had my kids that far apart(all four)!
...just do what is best for you!
The loonger the better! If he doesn't climb out, there is no need to put him in a big boy bed. You open a whole new can of worms when you do!!!
Gretta decided on her own to start sleeping in her big bed. She is 2 years and 3 months.
My middle child Maggie slept in a crib until she was 3. She transitioned just before Gretta was born. It worked well.
My oldest Emma slept in her crib until 18 months, at which time we put her in a queen size with pillows on either side. We had just bought ourselves a new king size, and didn't feel like taking down the queen, so she got it.
Ahh, those oldest children really get the short end. Good thing she didn't know that we didn't know what the heck we were doing.
I think the crib is the greatest. Safe, simple, familiar. I would have kept my kids in one forever if I could have. Don't worry about age. He'll know when he's ready.
I kept Carson in his crib until Jackson needed it so he was a little older than 2 1/2. Jackson will be in the crib until Hudson needs it. So Jackson will be 3. I agree with you, keep 'em in as long as you can!
I just thought of a win win situation that will allow you to use the cute bedding and keep Brett in his crib.
Just put the big boy bedding in his crib. I know, Im a genius I tell you. GENIUS!!
Hollie was out of her crib at about 18 months, but she sleeps in a toddler bed right next to our bed. So I think that is her security blanket. However, I am going to have to transition her soon to a bigger bed because she moves around so much in her sleep. I know with my other kids I knew when it was time and I think you will to.

Ella was out her crib by 22 months - we were moving and having a baby so we figured it was a good time.
Mailee was about 18 months.
I don't know when they suggest you do it...I just did it when I felt like it or when it made sense....like if I had some awesome big boy bedding that needed a bed....:)
Cute bed! I don't see why he wouldn't sleep in a big bed. What if you leave the crib up, set up the big bed, and do a trial run... or when he decides he wants to sleep in his sweet big bed, voila! If he gets out, throw him back in the crib.

I have no real advise about kids sleeping in beds vs cribs. All I know is that my niece started sleeping in a big girl bed a few months before her little brother was due...at 2 years old.
My kids were all out of the crib by 18 months - 2 years...but that's because there was another babe in line to use it. You do what works for you.
I took Carly out really early because she decided that she was ready to crawl out and she didn't do it very gracefully. I think she was around 15 months but I was scared she was going to land on her head. I would leave him there if he is happy and sleeping well. But that bedding is supe cute.
We converted Brecken's crib to her big girl bed the day after Christmas. I'm not sure why...she was like Brett and was very content in her crib. But luckily she doesn't get out of her bed very often at all...she knows she can but just doesn't.
My memory is so terrible that I don't even remember how old my kids were when I made the switch to a big bed.
I think it helps do decide when you have another one on the way... {{wink wink}}

Yeah...this is a tough one. Its great that they can stay put in a crib...but it would be 'cute' if they were in a big boy bed since they are just that, big boys. Total dilemma!
Ohhhh- I am in the same exact dilemma!! My oldest Hannah was 1 when we moved her- but only bc she was jumping out of her crib! But Jackson has not caught on to climbing out or anything. He is going to be 3 next month & I was trying to decide if I was going to buy him a big boy bed & redo his room...but you're right why fix it if it's not broken? Let me know what YOU do!! ;)
Keep him in until he ASKS to be out, or climbs out. we converted the crib to a toddler bed (basically took one side off) at 3. It was great, because the 3 times she got smart and tried to pull a fast one and leave her room to "visit" us after bedtime, the rail went back up for a day and she learned her lesson to stay in bed. At 3 1/2 we put up a gorgeous day bed in her room. One day at almost 4 yrs old, she asked to sleep in it. By then, she was staying dry through the night. SWEET-no plastic mattress cover. No washing accident bedding all the time.
No need to rush. If he's happy in his crib still, well, keep him there. When they're older you can use logic...or at least a good bribe (which IS logic to a 3 yr old)!
